JANUARY
We arrived in Stockholm on Friday 12th Jan after 28 hours of travel. We flew from Canberra to Melbourne, then Dubai and arriving in Stockholm at about 2 in the afternoon. After getting a taxi to our hotel and checking in, we did some exploring nearby. Saturday morning we met Steve's new boss Lisa, her son and their dog for coffee then we walked around a bit. Sunday morning after breakfast we went to our temporary apartment in Ostermalm, got some groceries and went out for dinner for Steve's birthday.
Steve started work on Monday and we met up at our new apartment to meet the agent and get the keys. We cant move in until we sort our furniture and get our boxes from Australia, but it was good to see our new home in person. I spent a lot of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with Lisa's husband Damien. We didn't do much over the weekend, except Damien took us to some outlets about half an hour away. We decided we don't need a car here as Steve can walk to work in 20 minutes and I pretty much have everything I need within walking distance and if we need to drive anywhere carshare is reasonably cheap and easy, once we get our ID numbers, and there is no car space at our apartment.
Steve went to Oslo on Monday and was home Tuesday night. I spent most of the week exploring the shops and getting my bearings. Friday was Australia Day, Steve had his accreditation and I met him after work. We went to a re-opening of an Australian bar. It was a good night and we met quite a few Aussies and a lovely Irish/Swedish couple who had lived in Australia for a few years. Saturday was our first DA and spouses function and we got to meet most of the other DAs and spouses. It was a dress up Safari Dinner (progressive dinner) then we all met up at a pub in Gamla Stan (Old Town). It was a great night! Sunday morning we went for a big walk past a few embassies and along the water. That night we had the Chinese Embassy's Lunar New Year celebration. On Monday Steve left for Estonia.
